After being away from the Octagon for 8 months,Paige VanZant is back with a BANG!
The 22-year-old former ballet dancer destroyed Bec “Rowdy” Rawlings with a devastating switch roundhouse kick that left her opponent stunned. As she collapsed to the canvas, “12 Gauge” wasted little time and finished her off on the ground with barrage of punches.
After her 2nd round victory the American said: “Going into the fight, I knew that she might have superior boxing to me and that’s something I wanted to work on, not closing the distance and trying to rush her because she would have a really strong right hand.”
Paige further added: “I felt her out and got the finish in the second. These are things I’ve always been capable of but I’ve never actually used. I feel I’m maturing as a fighter and listening to my corner. I heard them say, “left kick, left kick, left kick” and I finally decided it was open. I have landed it in training a few times and it is in my arsenal so I thought I might as well go for it.”
The former ‘Dancing with the Stars’ celebrity was seemingly assured of her rise to the stardom in the Women’s Strawweight division of the UFC before her dreams were derailed 8 months ago by Rose Namajunas in a ruthless fashion.
It will be interesting to see whether she will get her chance now to take revenge from Namajunas in the coming day. Paige received ‘Performance of the Night’ award on FOX 21 event at Rogers Arena in Vancouver.
